Non-Aerial Centrepins
Although many of the reels listed on this page are considered to be collectable, the majority are highly usable and in some instances even more practical than the more expensive Aerial reels listed on my Aerials & Aerial-Style Centrepins page. It is also probably worth mentioning here that the best value "usable" reels will be ones that are a bit worn, wobbly or of less than perfect appearance. If you have trouble deciding which reel is
best for you, please phone to discuss your requirements.
UK delivery charges (including insurance) will be added when you click the "Buy Now" button.
Unless stated otherwise, all reels on this page run on plain bearings, are ambidextrous and in good usable condition. They are listed in alphabetical order of maker or brand name...
I often have more items waiting to be listed, so if you can't find what you want on my web-site, please 'phone me.

Albert Smith (Redditch) “THE HODDER” Model No. 485 (circa 1920s)
aka Foster's (Ashbourne) “THE ACE” Model No. RL18 (circa 1920s)
aka J Peek & Sons (London) “THE VENUS” (circa 1920s)
Rare 4" diameter fully ventilated aluminium centrepin usually know as the Albert Smith "Hodder" but actually manufactured by Reuben Heaton (Birmingham) and stamped with their Reg'd No 715208. During the 1920s it was marketed by several companies under various names including "Hodder", "Ace" and "Venus". Features include a smooth scalloped brass foot, on/off button-operated caliper click-check, quick-release 11/8" wide "see through" 4-spoke pillar-drum (10 brass pillars) with 2-screw brass release latch and twin Xylonite (crazed) handle knobs (which can be removed for
easy maintenance). This free-running reel has many features similar to the Allcocks' Aerial of that era but lacks the patented "Tension Regulator Drag" of the Aerial, which is probably why the spool plates have integrated spokes instead of the labour-intensive individual balancing spokes necessary to support the tension regulator & drum release latch on the Aerial. Although marketed by at least 3 companies, this reel is still a rare find, and therefore very collectable as well as being highly useable for trotting,
legering, spinning, general float fishing and even fly fishing! Most of the original paint finish has flaked off leaving a nice dull grey patina, and there is virtually no mechanical wear...
