I define "Aerials" as having a free-running drum stabilised with spokes (usually 6 or 12), a centre boss with grub screw enabling end-float adjustment, instant drum release, a micro-adjustable regulating brake (but not always, and never on pre-1905 reels) and an on/off click-check. Some modern Aerial-style reels run on ball bearings, and have a one-piece machined drum instead of the traditional front and rear drum plates (or "flanges") separated by 12 pillars (or "line lays").  

Aerials are the centrepins of choice for many anglers and collectors because they are both elegant and practical. Many Aerials change hands on eBay every week at "bargain" prices but buyer beware! - most have undisclosed faults such as wobbles, cracks, corrosion or excess spindle wear which can be costly to rectify. I describe my reels as accurately as possible and welcome further enquiries. If you buy from me and are not entirely satisfied I pledge to refund the purchase price if returned safely within 10 days. If you feel I have misdescribed the item then I will refund your return postage as well!

I like to offer reels that are both efficient and affordable so I hope you will find an Aerial or Aerial-style reel on this page to suit your needs. Alternatively, I have a good range of other centrepins on my Non-Aerial Style Centrepins page, many of which are considered by some trotting enthusiasts to be equally practical as Aerials, albeit not as pretty! If you have trouble deciding which reel is best for you, please 'phone me to discuss your requirements.

A few words about fakes and refurbished reels... Unfortunately there are a few crooked dealers who knowingly sell fakes (or reels with major components such as back-plates replaced) as authentic and original, particularly Coxons and other rare Aerials... I am not one of those crooks!

Xylonite handle knobs (crazed but no splits or chips, structurally sound), circular bordered Allcock Aerial circular bordered trademark and Reg Design No.689467 stamped on backplate. The shallow drum enables faster line recovery without the need for loads of backing. An extremely smooth, silent runner with a slight wobble and some general wear but runs absolutely silently. Not polished or mucked about with. Total weight: 6¹/4oz, drum weight: 2³/4 oz. Loaded with approx 100yds of what appears to be Allcock's "Lincoln" undressed plaited green nylon from the early 1950's which I have tested to just under 10lb - amazing considering its age! Good useable condition.

No markings, total weight: 9³/4 oz, drum weight: just 3oz! A lovely trotting reel that spins silently with no play or wobble! Excellent condition throughout.
