B James & Son (London, England) RICHARD WALKER MkIV (made circa early 1950's)

10ft (actually 10'3" overall) two piece dark built cane 11/2 lb TC carp rod (almost certainly a Bob Southwell blank) with 28" fully corked handle, knurled aluminium sliding winch fittings, threaded tapered aluminium butt cap with red rubber button, "trumpet" front end and stepped aluminium shoulder collar. Bronzed brass reinforced splint-end suction ferrules (perfect fit with no knocks or excess wear), turned hardwood & cork ferrule stopper, Aqualite lined butt & tip guides with chromed brass low cradle intermediates and dark green closely spaced graduated whippings. All fittings appear original except the tip ring which has recently been replaced and is correct. Weight: 133/4 oz.

At first glance this excellent rod has the appearance of a 1st version early '30's Ealing rod ("trumpet" handle, stepped shoulder collar & very dark cane) but the transfer & cloth bag state "London, England" so either the rod was a transitional 1955 version or else an early 1950s rod that was factory refurbished* around 1955-57 when a "London" transfer and a new cloth bag with "London" badge would have been added?
* I think "factory refurbished" is the most likely theory evidenced by the cork handle showing more signs of use than the rest of the rod, in which case it would probably have been made pre-1955 ...unless you know better?

Whatever it's history it is certainly a highly attractive, useable & collectable rod in excellent condition complete with partitioned cloth bag with hanging loop...

Allan Martin TEME BARBEL 11ft 4in (made 1993 in England)

Seymo butt and intermediate guides have one-piece black frames with hard wearing one-piece hard chromed centers and are whipped in burgundy nylon thread over a bed of fine crimson thread. All other whippings are black tipped with crimson. The tip guide is threaded to accept a quiver tip. The butt is weighted for improved balance. A powerful rod ideal for big rivers and winter conditions. Excellent condition in a partitioned cloth bag with hanging loop.
